US Import Checks Before a Parcel Ships
Do not build a budget around an old ‘under $800’ slogan. Import treatment depends on the rules in force when the shipment enters, plus the shipment’s facts.
The old blanket rule changed
CBP’s suspension fact sheet says duty-free de minimis treatment was suspended globally from August 29, 2025. That does not provide a tariff calculation for a specific parcel.
Collect the facts that affect treatment
Record the item description, value, origin, tariff classification if known, entry method and carrier. Ask who will collect duties or processing fees and when.
Describe the shipment accurately
Do not understate the value, call a purchase a gift, or split parcels to evade a rule. This site does not recommend declaration amounts or tax-free routes.
